WORD MASTERY WITH THE USE OF CLAY
The objective of Davis Symbol Mastery® for Words is to create and
master all three parts of a word:
- what it looks like
- what it sounds like
- what it means
Some of the most common words in the English language, often called
'sight words' are also the words most often misread, altered, omitted.
The reason this occurs is because their meaning has not been fully
mastered. As for those 'little' words (mainly pronouns, prepositions,
articles, etc.: 'the', 'in', 'with', 'for', 'him'...); no mental picture has been
created for their meaning in association with their sound and written
representation.
They are the words a child may recognise one day and forget the next.
To truly master these words, the Davis Symbol Mastery® suggests the
mastery of about 220 of these words in clay.
