Fundamentals of Davis®
 
The cornerstone of Davis® is the discovery that dyslexia and other learning disabilities
do not stem from brain deficits or damage, but from a perceptual talent.
 
The key element used by a dyslexic individual is the ability to unconsciously alter
sensory perceptions and perceive them as reality.
 
When dyslexics are made aware of this thought process and shown how to intentionally
turn it off, they cease to experience disorientation and distortion.
 
All Dyslexics share three common characteristics:
  • Ability to think in pictures (visual learning style)
  • Ability to register a mental image as though it were an actual perception                                  
  • Lower than normal threshold for confusion
Because symbols and words are not real objects, but merely two-dimensional concepts,
recognition does not always occur naturally. This may lead to false sensory perception 
and consequently through a sequence of:
confusion - disorientation - false sensory perception - incorrect data - mistakes -
frustration...and in order to cope to compulsive solutions. These 'solutions' prevent
the normal learning process and therefore create the disability aspect of dyslexia.
